Child Movie Makers

My Frames 2010

In 2010, from September to November, 25 rural girls were trained by our facilitator, Ms. Surekha in Documentary Film making under Participatory Video Documentation program of UNICEF. The girls in the age group of 11-16 years were exposed to various aspects of Film making such as Script writing, Storyboard making, Camera handling, Shooting, Editing and Voiceovers.

The creativity and understanding levels of the participants were very high. During these 3 months of training they managed to produce six documentary films on issues very close to them. Mulla Bandham (Knot Now) has won the Best movie award in Child Rights category and Aata Vidupu (Playful Innocence) has won the Best movie award in Culture & Tradition category at the Andhra Pradesh Children's Film Festival, Hyderabad, on 15th, 16th November 2010.

This initiative helped adolescent girls to express themselves more confidently and also fight for their rights. These girls have gained a special status for themselves in their village as Child Media Reporters. Their friends now look up to them for advice or solution. More adolescent girls are showing interest in undergoing training in Video Documentary Film Making.
